Addison County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on March 28.
Last, but certainly not least, we are wrapping up National Social Work Month by introducing you to one of the longest members of ACCT and SASH! Diana has been running the SASH program with ACCT for 8 years!! Let's give her a hand!
Diana works with 80 clients (WOW!) who are residents of Armory Lane Senior Housing or are located in their own dwelling in the community.
End of life care can be a difficult aspect of this profession, but for Diana, she cherishes those moments.
"It seems sad, but some of my most cherished memories are being able to hold someone’s hand as they are going through the final chapter of their life. Knowing that I was able to help them through a difficult time in their life is something special."
SASH supports not only the participant but contributes to uplifting the community as a whole by supporting the adult children who are often the front line care giver for aging loved ones.
"Knowing there is someone else available to care for their family member helps their children to feel supported. It's an extra level of protection for the family."
In 8 years of service, Diana is often asked how one can help the seniors in the community.
"A lot of times people want to do things for seniors. What can we get, buy, do? The biggest thing is to take time and listen. Take the time to spend with them."
