Rutland County Audubon Society issued the following announcement.
17 happy people celebrated the 52nd Annual Earth Day with a walk around the West Rutland Marsh yesterday and spotted 45 species of birds, including 4 species of warbler, as well as Snipe, American Bittern, and Viginia Rail, all of which we were delighted to have return. We were also excited to find ourselves in the midst of a large Ruby- crowned Kinglet population. They were singing from all corners of the Marsh and many were actually easy to see! You can find our complete list on vtebird, Rutland County, RCAS.
Here are a few other items of note from yesterday: 1. Mourning Doves welcomed us to the Marsh! 2. Marsh Marigolds are budding! 3.Some elfish person surprised us with a gnome and peace sign at the entrance to our new boardwalk!
