The March 7th Town of Castleton election results can be found at https://www.castletonvermont.org/.../results-town...

Thanks to all who came out and voted. Thank you for passing all budget articles. Budget increases are never popular and this year trying to contain costs without reducing services was even more of a challenge. The generosity and support shown by so many voters is appreciated and certainly not taken for granted. Thank you for your patience and support.

I apologize for not clarifying the "Town Lands" article on the ballot. The large increase in the Town Lands budget as compared to over the previous year was due  to moving the mowing costs of Town lands out of the highway department and into the actual "Town Lands" budget, where it truly belongs. Additionally, the mowing bids approved by the Select board this year were significantly higher than last year. Only two contractors submitted bids , which happened to be the same two as the last year. They do a great job, but due to the increase in hiring help and the increased fuel costs, the bid prices increased.

To further clarify, the highway crew does the roadside mowing but not the mowing of Town Lands. Areas mowed by contractors are the Park & Ride, Town Green, Castleton Free Library, Dewey Field, Hydeville baseball field, Town Office, Public Safety Building (Police/Fire/EMS), Crystal Haven Common Area, and the traffic triangles at the intersection of South Street and Staso Road, and the intersection of North Road and Pencil Mill Road. This year we will have to add the former Castleton Village School (CVS) and the T-Ball field behind the former CVS to the list.
