Census Bureau: 3.3% of people in Essex County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 5,972 citizens living in Essex County in 2021, 96.7% said they were only one race, while 3.3% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Essex County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 95.4% or 5,697 individuals. Following them, Asian accounted for 0.7% and totaled 44 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Essex County is 0.1% lower than the state average, which stands at 3.4%.
